Hi Tony. Â I just came across the website for the Sandstone Ice Festival and I am really interested in attending (either one day or two days). Â But I noticed that all of the clinics are full. Â I have never been ice climbing before and don't have any equipment. Â The website said there will be demo gear available, but I wasn't sure if that supply would be limited or not.
So basically, my question is, is it too late to be able to participate? Â If I register for one or two days, will I be able to climb? Â Once or more than once?Â
I'm also interested in the winter camping clinic, so maybe I'll make it up either way, but since I'm coming from Saint Paul, I was hoping to get some real time to get introduced to the support.
Thanks for you help.
Regards,
Andy
hi Andy,
If you are a rock/gym climber then this event is perfect for you. Saturday will be the busy day, you'll get a bunch more climbing in on Friday or Sunday. I suggest coming up Saturday, bring your harness and a helmet, meet some new climbers, get a little climbing in, then hang out and enjoy the evening activities. Besides the slide show Dawn Glanc is giving there will be a gear swap, Bob Gould will have his endless collection of climbing guides and don't forget the fireworks and the door prizes provided by the Ice Festival's
generous sponsors.
Then
Camp in the park, last year there were over twenty tents of all sizes and shapes. Wake up Sunday morning, drink some Peace Coffee(ice fest sponsor) and start climbing again.Â
The Sandstone Ice Festival is a great place to get introduced into the sport of ice climbing and mixed climbing. You can meet some new friends and even if you are not in a clinic, there will be plenty of climbers around to give you tips.Â
The camping clinics will start at 10:00 on Saturday and will be ongoing the rest of the day.
hope to see you at the festival,
Tony Vavricka
